It is technically impossible to tell yoou just how bad this range is. First it took two deliveries to even get a range that was not all beat up scratched and dented. The first range I got looked as if it had been in a demolision derby and last badly. It was badly scratched, dented and vast sections of its black side panels were discolored as if exposed to a corrosive beach. Well finally a week later I was given another range this one was cosmetically better.
Using the range. The burners are totally under powered and extremely cheap to boot. The coil sits in a fire resistant metal housing containing a packed sand like substance. Problem is this sand is flimsy like a mud pie. If this stove experiences the least little vibration from the door closing or a heavy pot placed on the range expect to lose an element. The elements in a burners is break easier than the ones in GE light bulbs. As you can imagine these elements are extremely expensive. More than that the elements for this stove are so special that the GE trucks do not carry them. These sealed unit with its element set in sand like substance must be special ordered.
Oh but the fun does not stop there boys and girls. When GE ships a very fragile delicate replacement element to you, they do so without any packing at all other than the box. The element is shipped banging and clanging around in the box and you guessed it, the first one arrived broken. The technican now mad as I was asked GE to send 2 elements in case on was broken in transit. I called GE customer care a real joke if you ask me. I asked if they would take a moment to pack their delicate element so I might hope to recieve it undamaged. The customer care lady who was really nice said she sent a note to the shipping department asking that the elements be packaged to prevent damage.
Well a day later both elements arrived bundled together each floating in their respective seperate boxes. I opened one to find it damaged and opened the other and found it undamaged. The following friday the tech came to install the undamaged element. So this stove cost me FIVE MISSED DAYS OF WORK. 2 lost days of work to have it delivered, then redelivered. Three lost days. Lost day one to have the tech come tell me my part was a special order and he would return next week to install it. Lost day two to have the tech return only to find the element he was about to install had its sand base completely cracked making its fire protection useless. The wait another week and on lost day three from work he returns to finally install the only element that survived after three attempts at mailing by GE's lame packing \ shipping department.
The funny thing is that this range cooks horrible even when everything works as it should. The Oven is first rate. I can not complain about the Oven at all. However there are better ovens in ranges that have range tops that can actually be used for the purpose of preparing a meal. This range is not suitable for use by a dog. This range is so bad I am currently saving up to replace this new and very expensive range with anything but a GE product. I used to swear by GE because its quality was second to none in my experience. This range and the customer care that went with it was of such low and loathesome quality that I will not be buying GE again for quite some time.
I had an old GE Spectra electric stove that worked like a dream and was impossible to break. This monstosity replaced my awesome Spectra with a lame useless buggy overpriced peice of garbage that should have never been designed or built. Hopefully GE has learned that a good product is durable and its quality is second to none. GE built an awesome product in its old Spectra range seems these new 20 something wizz kids designing todays ranges are all about the flash pop and sizzle of gadgets and not about designing in durability and quality as the sand box burner design more than proves.
