(More customer reviews)First I'll clarify that although the picture on this page looks like a light blue lid/strainer, I did receive it with the correct white lid.
~ Second it's important to fairly and honestly state that Kitchenaid still does make numerous superior and outstanding products (especially their dishwashers and mixers) and I give TEN stars to my Kitchenaid cutlery set, hard anodized cookware, rolling pin, their silicone utensils and several other kitchenaid tools and gadgets that I've purchased ~H~O~W~E~V~E~R~ I really, really, absolutely, unequivocally DESPISE this gravy separator, and it's so bad that I won't even use it as a measuring cup for any liquids at all!!
~ On my first attempt to use it the lid did a good job at stopping the bits from getting into the juices and it did a `minimally' acceptable job at separating the fat from the juices, but that's where the functionality ended. I hadn't realized it immediately, but when I began pouring the juices into my rue / saucepan, it was dribbling the grease and juices onto my stove, and the countertop beside my stove, AND SPILLING DOWN INTO THE 1/4" INCH SPACE BETWEEN MY STOVE AND CABINETS - yyyyuuucckkk!! My attempts to stop the dribbling by pouring slower or faster or at a different angle did nothing to stop the dribbling so my husband tried finishing up the gravy, but this contraption just kept on dribbling the juices everywhere when he was pouring too. We finally had to keep removing the pan to pouring and whisking over the sink then return the pan to the stove to heat some more, but unfortunately too much of a mess was made before we even noticed the problem this was creating.
~ It was AS IF KITCHENAID COPIED THIS DESIGN AFTER A PRANKSTER'S DRIBBLE-GLASS but there's really nothing funny about and the amount of extra cleaning work we had to do after a long day of cooking a huge holiday meal!! After clearing the table, putting away the left-over's and doing tons of dishes, we not only had to do an extra-thorough job of lifting and cleaning the stovetop, but we then had to pull out the stove (as far as our gas line would allow us to), then clean the greasy spills on the sides of the stove, and then try to reach far enough back into the space between the stove and cabinet to clean the greasy mess off the sides of the cabinet!! No one wants or needs all that extra work on top of all the other work necessary to pull together a holiday meal; the extensive mess and all the extra work this caused was a real holiday joy-killer.
~ I'm very disappointed that Kitchenaid allowed this flawed design to be sold and I may never regain the unquestioning trust that I once held for all kitchenaid products.
