CorningWare 2.5-qt. Oval Casserole with Lid - French White Review

CorningWare 2.5-qt. Oval Casserole with Lid - French White
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The original "French White" Corningware was made of their famous pyroceramic glass, which could be used on the gas stove, put directly in the freezer, put under the broiler right from the freezer, and oh yes, also used in a microwave. And it was very unlikely to shatter if dropped. If you pounded on it with a hammer and nail you might have gotten it to break.
When World Kitchens bought the license from Corning, they decided to halt production of a line of cookware that would take anything and last forever, and dupe customers, especially brides, into thinking the stoneware "French White" was the same thing as the wonderful French White pyroceramic cookware previously available.
The pattern is attractive and can be used with any decor, but this stuff is not, repeat, really not, what people mean when they say "Corningware."
Le Creuset can do most of the above mentioned, but it being metal you cannot use it in the microwave. Stoneware cannot go on top of the stove, and repeated trips from the freezer to the oven will eventually cause it to craze and crack. And being stoneware, it will also chip, and break if dropped, etc. Pyrex glassware cannot go on the gas stove although you can take it from the freezer to the oven, and also microwave it.
The only product which could do anything was pyroceramic, and World Kitchens has chosen to remove it from the market because it is "too good."
They have recently brought back a few of the old square shapes, with the Cornflower, or plain white, calling it "vintage," but the French White shape is not making an appearance yet. If you want it, email them and ask for it!
Meanwhile, get Le Creuset for stovetop cooking and roasting (yes it is expensive but it lasts forever and cooks beautifully), and reheat things in Pyrex in the microwave.

Le Creuset Enameled Cast-Iron 2-1/4-Quart Saucier Pan, Dune Review

Le Creuset Enameled Cast-Iron 2-1/4-Quart Saucier Pan, Dune
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We received this saucier as a wedding gift from a friend, and she really knew what she was doing when she bought this pan! The heat distribution on this thing is incredible, so you don't get the typical "hot" and "cold" spots as you would with cheaper cookware. The weight is substantial, but not too much even for a petite person such as me to handle, lift, or hand wash. The little vent hole in the lid is a nice touch, and the colors (we have flame) will really brighten things up around your kitchen. It is well worth the money to purchase this pan, especially since it has a 101 year warranty.

Modeled after the smooth, curved contours of the Soup Pot and Bouillabaisse Pot, this classic saucier pan by Le Creuset offers the steady heat distribution of cast iron and the seamless cooking surface required for building and stirring delicate sauces. The pan's wide, shallow shape facilitates easy stirring, while its gently flared sides encourage rapid reduction, concentrating flavors. The saucier holds up to 2-1/4 quarts and measures 16-1/2 by 8-4/5 by 5 inches.
Like other pieces in Le Creuset's cast-iron collection, the cookware's exterior features a colorful, long-lasting enamel that resists chipping and cracking, while its durable, nonreactive, sand-colored interior enamel offers a smooth surface for cooking and an optimal palette for food presentation. As cast iron is unexcelled for even heat distribution and superior heat retention, and enamel is impervious to acids and odors, the unit browns and cooks food uniformly and gently without hot spots and can be used for marinating, cooking on the stovetop, or finishing in the oven. The pan's long cast-iron handle and opposite helper handle facilitate convenient transport, while its secure-fitting lid locks in heat, moisture, and flavor. The lid also comes fitted with a black phenolic knob that's oven-safe up to 350 degrees F. Beautiful enough for the table yet durable enough to outlive its lifetime limited warranty, the saucier pan can be safely used on any stovetop, including induction, and should be hand washed for best results.

CorningWare French White 16-Ounce Round Dish Review

CorningWare French White 16-Ounce Round Dish

This handy individual sized casserole is just perfect for the microwave, oven, or storing food in the fridge. I also reccommend the Corning Wear French White 15 oz ovals as well. I use both types when I make a big batch of lazana and place the rest in an individual casseroles. Then, I have my lunch ready for the next day to heat up! Note that this is not the original pyrocream --instead this is made of stoneware. This stoneware works ONLY in a microwave or regular oven. It does not work on the COOKTOP of a stove. Also note that the newer Corning Ware is of stoneware. The reason that I scored this a 4 and not a 5 is because it is not the original procream and it does not work on the cooktop. You will see more in the excellent BLOG if you look for this in Google called: "What happened to Corning Ware?" This is a real eye opener and I learned much reading this wonderful discussion!

the white ceramic Cordon Bleu utensil crock is a terrific value for the price and quite large. It's roomy enough to accommodate all the larger utensils that won't fit in the drawer and I've placed the crock on top of my stove where it's within easy reach. It has practicality (put it in the dishwasher to clean) and looks really good as part of the kitchen decor, no matter what the color scheme

My daughter broke the last of my original CorningWare set I'd had for 30 years. (I got it young, ok?) I was looking specifically for cookware that would stack, since space is a concern. Having only to deal with a single glass lid that fits more than one pot is a definite plus. The storage lid and serving cradle are nice bonuses, as far as I'm concerned.
The price was good as was the quality I've come to expect from CorningWare.

I bought this and thought it was decent. Don't forget 24oz is small. Its not a dish that can hold several portions. If you are looking to use it for one portion that is fine. One thing I need to point out is that the cover is plastic and plastic heating up in a microwave according to some may not be the best idea since plastic in a heated environment can give off toxins. Something some may want to keep in mind. Happy eating!
