This is a great little pan! My daughter loves eating little pancakes and muffins, all we've made so far. For her the size of the cakes is just right. The extras are great for snacks or freezing for later use. Line up the outstide cups on the burner grate and it works fine. The pan is cast iron sooooo wash it in hot water, rinse in hot water, towel dry then heat it on your stove top on low heat. While it is still warm, smear a good layer of vegetable shortening on it, set it in an aluminum foil pan, and bake it at 250 - 300 for an hour. Turn off the oven and leave the pan inside until it is cool. The pan is now seasoned, yeah! After you use the pan wash it in hot water, rinse in hot water, towel dry and heat it on a burner on low heat. When it is dry I spray it with cooking oil and let it set for another minute then turn off the burner, it is then ready to use next time. Standard operating procedure for all my cast iron.

Aunt Else's 9-hole Cast Iron Aebleskiver Pan Review

I adore my pan, but still in the process of leaning ho to make them perfectly rounded. It was a pain to cure and made my house smell kinda metallic for a while. You do need to use it a few times before it becomes non stick IMO, so make sure to oil it really really well. I totally recommend it if you want a nice Aelbeskiver pan because all the other ones I've seen seem pretty cheap and the ones on those infomercials are not the traditional rounds like these. You can use this pan for other things as well, so plan to experiment! I do! I am giving 4 stars because it was a pain to cure, but other than that it's pretty awesome well made pan! It's super heavy too and will last foreverrrrrrrrrr. Your great great great grandkids will be able to use it someday!

Æbleskiver - pronounced EB-el-sku-wyr, a Danish word meaning apple slice.Traditional Danish spherical pastry, somewhat similar in taste and texture to an American pancake, but light and fluffy like a popover. Æbleskiver are cooked on the stove top in an æbleskiver pan.Æbleskiver are traditionally filled with a slice of apple, but can be made to suit a range of tastes from sweet to savory, and are often topped with syrup, jam or applesauce.Considered a specialty bakeware item, the 9 holes or wells are filled with batter and as it starts cooking, the chef uses a chopstick or knitting needle to "turn" it into a ball. The pan has a 8" wide and is 13 3/4" long. The holes or wells are 2 1/4" in diameter and 1 1/8" deep.Aunt Else's own design! This is so much easier than the cast iron one I had, have used it 4 times since I got it. Had week-end guests, and they were wowed over. Never heard of these. They were going to order one when they got home. It's so easy to use, chop sticks work best, and with gas heat it's best to use a med. low heat or they brown too fast. Other than that, they are great, I make them the night before and put the in the oven to heat them through in the morning. Taste like they were just made. I love it.

Traditional Danish pancakes, known as Aebleskiver, can be made quickly and easily with help from this convenient pan by Norpro. A favorite treat of Denmark, the stuffed sphere-shaped pancakes make a delightful addition to any meal. Serve them sweet or savory, filled with anything from apples, jam, or chocolate chips to chunks of sausage or cheese. The pan, which measures 9 inches in diameter, provides seven round-shaped indentations, which measure 2-3/4 inches deep--perfect for cooking up the delicious treat. Constructed of durable cast aluminum, the pan heats quickly and evenly and comes with a nonstick cooking surface, which ensures healthier results (no need for excess butter or oil), effortless release of the baked goods, and quick cleanup. Thoughtfully designed, the pan also provides an ergonomic, 7-1/2-inch-long, stay-cool handle, complete with a hanging hole on the end for space-saving storage. When finished, the pan should be hand washed to help protect its nonstick surface. Recipes are included.
