That is the only drawback of this item.

This is more than just a good meal; the act of cooking together warms the heart while the hot soup warms the body.
I thought that when I moved back to the US, that the yearly ritual of nabe parties would become a thing of the past. One of the necessary components is a portable butane cooker than can be placed on the kitchen table for everyone to gather around. The other component is a traditional 10" nabe pot to do the cooking in. I shouldn't have worried! Both are available right here!
If you have never enjoyed the ritual of nabe, then you are truly missing something. It is one of my favorite Japanese foods, easy to make and deeply satisfying. There are not a lot of nabe cookbooks available in English, but Japanese Cooking: A Simple Art will give you a good place to start.

(More customer reviews)I am cheap (Asian), and was not keen on plopping down $100 on this cooker. Totally worth it. I got it after I saw some little old ladies at 99 Ranch buying one!
Cooks hot pot like a CHAMP. I was using a single burner with a divided hot pot pot (lol) on top and I had to boil a separate pot the stove to keep up with demand (feeding 4 adults). No more! This thing is sooo convenient. Super easy to adjust the temperature and it heats up quickly.
Nice safety feature that it has a magnetic power cord, in case someone trips over it or you have kids. It stays on just fine.
Also works great as a steamer.
The finish is conducive to easy cleanup.
The grill part...well, I mean...it's essentially a one-sided George Foreman grill. Nothing too special there--but it is very easy to clean.
Buy it! You know if the old Chinese ladies at 99 Ranch were buying, it HAS to be good.
**Update**
Owned it now for almost a year. Still going strong, still highly recommended. It even saved me through a stove issue (2 weeks for the new part to arrive). There are a lot of things you can make with this cooker, I have to say.

(More customer reviews)I adore my pan, but still in the process of leaning ho to make them perfectly rounded. It was a pain to cure and made my house smell kinda metallic for a while. You do need to use it a few times before it becomes non stick IMO, so make sure to oil it really really well. I totally recommend it if you want a nice Aelbeskiver pan because all the other ones I've seen seem pretty cheap and the ones on those infomercials are not the traditional rounds like these. You can use this pan for other things as well, so plan to experiment! I do! I am giving 4 stars because it was a pain to cure, but other than that it's pretty awesome well made pan! It's super heavy too and will last foreverrrrrrrrrr. Your great great great grandkids will be able to use it someday!
