Paula Deen 3.5 Quart Porcelain Covered Round Casserole, Burgundy Review

This is a beautiful and heavy 3.5 quart dutch oven/casserole. It can be used on the stovetop or in the oven. It's so pretty, I will for sure serve soups and stews right from the pan! The color is a deep graduated cranberry and the inside is a nice cream color . It is cast iron coated with high quality porcelain. You cannot put this in the microwave, but it can do everything else. It's really nice to have a pan (finally) that can be moved frow stovetop to oven and vice versa. Thanks Paula! This is beautiful, useful cookware and the color is just lovely. It also comes with three of Paula's famous recipes.

A Southern take on the classic Dutch oven, this 3-1/2-quart cast iron round casserole from venerable Southern cook Paula Deen is a great choice for slow-cooking and simmering everything from soups and stews to hearty chili and braised meats. The exterior features a two-toned porcelain enamel in burgundy with a unique swirl pattern that's resistant to stains and a breeze to clean up. The casserole's cast iron core guarantees even heat distribution, so your food won't burn and it will remain hot throughout your meal. Broiler safe, you can also use this casserole out on your grill. The spacious, solid cast loop handles on either side make it easy to grip it confidently, even with bulky potholders or mitts. Hand wash only. Backed by a 1-year warranty.
Paula Deen got her start with a lunchtime catering business in Savannah, Georgia called The Bag Lady before opening her successful restaurant, The Lady & Sons. And now she spreads her distinctive and authentic Southern delicacies--from real Southern fried chicken and hoecakes to Krispy Kreme bread pudding--via the Food Network and several best-selling cookbooks.

Martha Stewart Collection Red Enameled Cast Iron Round Pot, 7 Qt. Red Review

I was given this as a Christmas gift two years ago. I used it sporadically, not more than twenty times in that span of ownership. One night my husband and I were eating dinner cooked in this dish when we both noticed some crunchy matter in the stew. I thought I hadn't rinsed one of the root vegetables well enough and that it was sand. When dishwashing time came, we discovered that we had been eating the enamel, which had cracked and popped off during cooking. There is a quarter-sized (now oxidized) area in the bottom of the pan where the enamel used to be, as well as another quarter-sized area that is about to come off. Also, the enamel around the entire interior margin has cracked, leading me to believe that if I were ever to use it again (I wouldn't), the remaining enamel would pop clean off of the bottom.
These cast enamelware items are supposed to be lifetime purchases, heavy-duty workhorses. For one to give up the ghost after light, infrequent use screams of inferior craftmanship. I used to roll my eyes at the prices of other enamelware lines, but I'm starting to think there's a reason they cost so much.
Save yourself the time, money and dental work. Go high-end, or just buy plain cast iron. I'm doing the latter.

Cast iron holds heat better than any other cooking metal for warm, hearty stews and other fork-tender meat dishes. This large classic pot is not only reliable on the stovetop, but makes a lovely presentation at the table as well. Limited lifetime warranty.

Lodge Enamel Coated Cast-Iron Skillet, Red Review

This handy little skillet is actually a HEAVY WEIGHT! It has the durability of cast iron, and the convenience of non-stick coating. I hesitated when ordering because I have had teflon skillets that would flake after a while, but this is not like the non-stick of old. It has a 25-year limited warantee!
Since I have an electric stove, it took some time to learn how to adust the stove because it retains the heat so well. I finally started turning the stove off the last 10 minutes or so. That works great for me. Also, if I'm cooking a steak, I sear it good on one side, turn it, and finish cooking in the oven at 450* for another 10 minutes. That's another thing I like...the fact that the skillet can go right from the stovetop to the oven. Careful, because the handle does get very hot, and also the skillet is HEAVY because it's cast iron, but it's a good heavy!

I'm not at all sure what you would gain by buying one of these pans at five times the price of this one (and there are some). This one works just the way I want. It browns beautifully with out sticking and you can still deglaze a bit after for soups, stews, etc. It cleans up easily, the lid fits well...not sure just what you would get for more money spent.
It is very heavy...you must use caution on a glass cook top to lift it as you move it...I'm sure a more expensive one would be the same.
I am very happy with it. And I am not a bit shy about writing a bad review when I am not. Love this pan!

Throw away your nonstick cake pans, this pan is perfect for cakes, pies and well almost any use in oven or stove top. Like all Le Creuset it browns food beautifully and cleans easily. I'm actually using it more on the stove than in the oven. I love this pan.

While the inspiration for this pan came from the tempting, homey, Tarte Tatin, a beautifully simple dessert recipe treasured in France, this beautiful Le Creuset piece is perfect for everyday and special days, appetizers, main courses and desserts. Handcrafted of porcelain enamel cast iron, it's designed to perform with recipes that are started on top of the stove and are finished in the oven. It's nearly 9.75-inches in diameter and large flat side handles that make it easy to lift, rotate or flip foods over onto a plate. Today's cooks will appreciate the joy of Tatin-style cooking since it looks more difficult and elaborate than it is, and all the preparation and cooking can be done in just one dish.

Paint and construction are of excellent quality. Because of the low sides and being thinner, it is light for a cast iron pan. But still rugged. I paired it with an Emerilware 8" square panini iron and the two fit perfect together.
UPDATE REVIEW: The interior of the pan has permanantly blackened after a few uses. Not like my old porcelin dutch oven that cleans up in a breeze.
I say 3 stars now.

This pot is beautiful! The blue is vibrant. This is my third enamel cast iron piece and I just love how they brown meat perfectly and clean up great. I can brown 5 chicken breasts at once in this pot, it also reduces liquids quickly. This dish is built to last... heavy, sturdy construction. I will have it for my lifetime and I have no doubt that my children or even grandchildren will use it too!

Lodge Enameled Cast-Iron 11-Inch Skillet Review

Lodge Enameled Cast-Iron 11-Inch Skillet

(More customer reviews)
I've had this pan for several months now and had previously been used to frying with regular cast iron or stainless steel. I have a flat top stove and am not supposed to use my cast iron on it so I thought I would try this one instead. I've found that the interior is better than stainless steel for cooking certain things (like over-easy eggs) with a simple clean-up and minimal sticking. It's also good for reheating left-over meals, or making pancakes.
However, when I tried cooking things like sausage, or stir-fry meat, or with any sauces that contained sugar, I ended up with charred bits that would not come off. I tried boiling the pan with vinegar, or scouring gently with baking soda and nothing works. I did of course follow the directions and have never cooked on any setting above medium (usually, I use medium low). Then I made the mistake of frying falafel in the pan. I now have a permanent layer of caramelized oil on the bottom of my pan. Add the two chips on the handle that came off within the first week of use (and I am extremely gentle with this pan), and I would have to say I am fairly disappointed.
I also own the Lodge Enamel 6 quart dutch oven, and that item is fabulous. Not a chip or stain on it, even though I use it extensively. Also, I have fried up some of the same things in the dutch oven as the fry pan - with no sticking/stains in the dutch oven, but with permanently charred bits in the fry pan. Lodge should have made this one with the glossy interior.
Perhaps I'll replace this one with the 3 quart covered casserole since it has the glossy interior.

Tramontina Gourmet Cast Iron Covered Casseroles Review

The price can't be beat! $45 with free shipping is a great value regardless of what I write in this review. I was excited to open the box, and loved the color immediately! I continued to be impressed by the weight of the pot. But after completely un packing, I placed the lid on the pot, and looked at my wife and said, this is why a Le Creuset is $245, and this was only $45. The lid does not seal tightly, and you need to rotate the lid to find the position where it seals best, though it's still not 100%, closer to 90%.
Would I buy it again? Probably. Would I have bought it in a store, where the faults were clear before making the decision to purchase? Probably not. I just cannot justify the $200+ dollars for the "real deal".
I hope this helpful.
UPDATE: After using this dutch oven many times for a variety of dishes, I would increase my rating to 4 stars. The initial dissappointment of the ill fitting lid has faded, and what remains is a pot that does its job well and even out on my bakers rack, next to a Le Creuset, holds its own in terms of looks.

Friends and family will quickly gravitate to the dining-room table with this beautiful casserole as the centerpiece. Measuring 14 by 11-2/7 by 7-4/5 inches, the covered pot holds 6-1/2 quarts, making it perfectly suited for slow cooking homemade soups and stews, sauteing vegetables, braising meats, roasting poultry, baking, and even frying. It also works well for one-dish meals: start by sauteing onions and browning meat, then add liquid and other ingredients to finish on the stovetop or in the oven. The vessel's interior features a light-beige, smooth, porcelain-enamel finish that requires no seasoning, so it's ready to use right out of the box, while its exterior sports a gleaming, vibrant red porcelain-enamel finish that adds a splash of color to any cookware collection.
Constructed from heavy-gauge cast iron, the vessel not only retains and distributes heat evenly (no hot spots to worry about), but it also resists scratches, stains, and the damaging effects of regular household use. Use it on any stovetop, including induction, electric, gas, and ceramic; it can also withstand an oven's heat up to 450 degrees F. Two integrated side handles flank the casserole, helping to ensure safe transport from the kitchen to the tabletop or buffet for use as serveware. The vessel's heavy, secure-fitting lid keeps heat, moisture, and nutrients contained, and its round stay-cool lid knob makes it easy to remove the lid when it's time to give contents a stir or serve up dinner. The covered casserole carries a limited lifetime warranty and cleans up easily by hand with hot, soapy water.
