It takes FOREVER to boil water, in fact, I now heat the water to the boiling point in my microwave, then transfer the water to a pot on this burner. Considering the price I paid, this product is definitely not worth it. It's okay for simmering, but that's about it.

Cadco PCR-1S Professional Cast Iron Range, Stainless Review

(More customer reviews)I love this single burner range...I serially bought one of several different models (of single burner ranges) locally, tested them, and returned them all. I was disgusted. Then I got this one. It was considerably more expensive, but its rock-solid and has been in use about 18 hours a day, 24 in some cases, for several months.
Its a great size for pans and regular pots, but a bit too large for the smaller pots, like 1-1.5 qt (or even a 2.5 qt, if the latter's got a windsor bottom).
It warms up very quickly, and cools off more gently. If you're used to cooking with gas, this will be a shock because it's cast iron and holds the heat. If you're experienced in cooking with cast iron (pots, pans, ranges :), you'll find it utterly predictable, or at least I do. Sometimes you just have to remove the pan for a few seconds and turn OFF (not down) the heat.
I consider it easy to clean. I've never done more than blow a few crumbs off on the cast iron burner, but I imagine it IS a sponge eater if you scrub it with one (as noted by another reviewer). The burner has a rough surface, but that's all good in my book. It keeps pots and pans from too easily or inadvertantly sliding off the range - prevents potential disaster! The part of the range that I'm really concerned about keeping clean is what all surrounds the burner. That part is all brushed steel, with no seams or holes or "gingerbread", very sturdy, very professional, and a real breeze to keep clean.
Did I mention that I totally love this range, despite the hefty price? It was designed for working cooks, imho. If I ever need yet another burner, I won't bat an eyelash at getting this same model, or at recommending it to a friend.Apr '09 ----- >2 years after original review

Korean BBQ Plate (LARGE) Review

(More customer reviews)The stove itself is lovely, but I have to say that I am fearful of using it, as I have had to guess what regulator, hose and fittings I must use to hook it up to propane for use. I bought it believing I could use it indoors as an alternate cook top, but having gone to a propane dealer and asking blindly for what I thought I must need, I was informed that I could only use a 1lb canister of propane indoors, and to want to use something like this inside at all is so unusual that I would need $50.00 fitting just to hook it up to the 1lb tank.
The Grill Store should be more mindful of the information needed to use their product safely and sucessfully. I would have reconsidered if I had known what I have since learned.

(More customer reviews)I got this single burner/hot plate to use for cooking at the office. It gets the job done and I would say that I am very satisfied with the purchase.
The burner gets nice and hot on the high setting.
It comes at a great price as well.
The first time I used it there was a little smoke coming from the plate but it went away after a few seconds. According to the manufacturer its normal for that to happen and it hasn't happened again.

(More customer reviews)I've found the Waring Pro DB60 to be a solid double burner. I like the simple design with cast iron plates makes for easy clean up. The temperature control seems faster than other burners i've used- when turning down from 5 to 2 (high to simmer) The Waring cost more than other double electric burners on the market, but from the not convincing reviews of the others, and from using the Waring every day for several weeks i think it is definitely worth it.

(More customer reviews)This burner is larger than expected - 28 X 14 X 5 inches, but it's built with very thin sheet stainless steel, with common steel burners. It has a flimsy feel, and when burning, it's very loud, sounding more like a blow torch.
The propane hose and fittings are substandard; fittings are joined to the hose with
cheap hose clamps, and the hose itself is thin-walled and lacking substance.
On mine, one burner shot its flame downward, as well as up. Don't use this on any combustible surface, or in any structure. My best recommendation is, don't use this at all!

Portable Butane Stove Review

(More customer reviews)This butane stove is sturdy and strong. It's big enough that you don't have to worry about the whole thing tipping over, the way you do with a tiny camping stove.
The butane canister kind of looks like a large bottle of hairspray. It's simple to install the butane canister - you just put the canister in there gently and flip a lever to connect it - there's no chance that you will get it in there the wrong way. (You don't have to pour any fuel in with a funnel, or anything smelly like that.) When you are ready to store away the stove, you just disconnect the butane canister, pop the plastic cap back on, and put it away.
I found out that butane canisters can be purchased on the web, but the shipping costs are more than the cost of the canisters, so it's easier to buy them locally at restaurant supply stores, or sporting/camping stores. On the other hand, if you are in the middle of a big weather disaster, and every store in town is sold out of butane canisters, then who cares about how much it costs. Thankfully UPS and Fedex deliver will stuff to your door, even in the middle of a winter wind/ice storm. Normally a butane canister costs about $2 or $3, and lasts around 3 hours. It's better to have a few in the garage, because they sell out pretty fast during a big windstorm, even in a metro city area.
This is a great stove for when the power goes out. The next time we get a windstorm, and the power goes out for 3 days, like it did during the big windstorm of Jan 2007 in the metro Seattle area, I'm all set.
By the way, I would recommend getting a butane stove even if you have a generator, because you will need the generator to run some lights and a heater. It's not much fun to have to disconnect the heater and the lights from the generator, , in freezing weather. With a butane stove, you can have your coffee, and your lights and heater too. It makes life much more pleasant during a long power outage.
