It takes FOREVER to boil water, in fact, I now heat the water to the boiling point in my microwave, then transfer the water to a pot on this burner. Considering the price I paid, this product is definitely not worth it. It's okay for simmering, but that's about it.

Toastmaster 6431 Eclipse Single Burner Review

(More customer reviews)The Toastmaster 6431 does not have an Underwriters Lab label, which would make anyone hesitate before buying it. The Underwriters Lab endorsement (a "UL" logo) indicates that the electrical product is properly designed and constructed so that it is safe. We found the product online, where there was no info about the UL status of the product.
The first thing that broke was the temperature control. We fixed that by oiling the screw whose in-out motion controls the heat setting.
The more serious problems emerged when the fuse blew. We looked inside and discovered overheated wires with partially-melted insulation. This condition could cause both an electrical shock to the user and an electrical fire that could burn down a house.
Toastmaster makes another hot plate (model TTS1) which does have an Underwriters Lab endorsement. We bought one today, and we hope that it will work safely until after the end of our kitchen remodelling project.

Almost half the original sale price ...

Maybe it is not designed to in which case, it should state that. If I need to boil water, I will put the pan on the plate, bring the water to boil in the microwave and transfer to the empty pot. Secondly, the temperature control knob is black as is the unit; you cannot easily see the position of the knob! I marked a few places on the unit with a Sharpie and colored the top of the knob so I could at least tell what was going on.

This hot plate has no temperature control or on/off switch. Has no heat shield around the wiring... so 2nd time I used it, the wiring melted and shorted out with a nice spark and burn. There is no way this product is legal in the US.

Cadco PCR-1S Professional Cast Iron Range, Stainless Review

(More customer reviews)I love this single burner range...I serially bought one of several different models (of single burner ranges) locally, tested them, and returned them all. I was disgusted. Then I got this one. It was considerably more expensive, but its rock-solid and has been in use about 18 hours a day, 24 in some cases, for several months.
Its a great size for pans and regular pots, but a bit too large for the smaller pots, like 1-1.5 qt (or even a 2.5 qt, if the latter's got a windsor bottom).
It warms up very quickly, and cools off more gently. If you're used to cooking with gas, this will be a shock because it's cast iron and holds the heat. If you're experienced in cooking with cast iron (pots, pans, ranges :), you'll find it utterly predictable, or at least I do. Sometimes you just have to remove the pan for a few seconds and turn OFF (not down) the heat.
I consider it easy to clean. I've never done more than blow a few crumbs off on the cast iron burner, but I imagine it IS a sponge eater if you scrub it with one (as noted by another reviewer). The burner has a rough surface, but that's all good in my book. It keeps pots and pans from too easily or inadvertantly sliding off the range - prevents potential disaster! The part of the range that I'm really concerned about keeping clean is what all surrounds the burner. That part is all brushed steel, with no seams or holes or "gingerbread", very sturdy, very professional, and a real breeze to keep clean.
Did I mention that I totally love this range, despite the hefty price? It was designed for working cooks, imho. If I ever need yet another burner, I won't bat an eyelash at getting this same model, or at recommending it to a friend.Apr '09 ----- >2 years after original review

With an adjustable leg it allows for a level large base cooking element for many different sizes of pots or pans. Also, unlike others I have used, when you set it to a temperature it stays constant at that temp. till I adjust it up or down. Great product.

Well, the second one only lasted a month, so I sent it back to the company (at my expense) and when I got it back (refurbished or maybe new? I'll call this my third) it lasted just under 3 months before it died in the middle of boiling eggs. It might be cheap, but in the long run, it's not worth it.

(More customer reviews)A complete and utter waste of money, the Rival BD275 double burner hot plate worked exactly half of one time.
I bought this because we were remodeling our home and we needed something to cook on in the temporary kitchen the contractor set up for us. Thinking a double burner hot plate would be a good and inexpensive solution for our "kitchen", I ordered this from Amazon who promptly delivered it a couple of days later. I plugged it in and waited and waited and waited for an interminable amount of time while the unit heated up. I couldn't tell if the unit was on because the light indicating power to the burner wasn't working, but I felt some heat rising from the element so, no big deal. Anyway, after about 15 minutes it got to a medium warm temperature, despite the fact that I had it set to high, and I started to cook my kids some eggs. I made it through two of the boys breakfasts when the unit shut down and wouldn't start up again.
The long and short of it: don't buy this piece of junk. It's not worth the bandwidth or even postage to send it back to Amazon for a refund. Rival should be ashamed of themselves for the lack of quality control in their products. Get a clue, Rival!!

(More customer reviews)The stove itself is lovely, but I have to say that I am fearful of using it, as I have had to guess what regulator, hose and fittings I must use to hook it up to propane for use. I bought it believing I could use it indoors as an alternate cook top, but having gone to a propane dealer and asking blindly for what I thought I must need, I was informed that I could only use a 1lb canister of propane indoors, and to want to use something like this inside at all is so unusual that I would need $50.00 fitting just to hook it up to the 1lb tank.
The Grill Store should be more mindful of the information needed to use their product safely and sucessfully. I would have reconsidered if I had known what I have since learned.

The burner has the exact same configuration and markings as the broken one it replaced except where the model number was etched into the "y" frame of the original burner there is a gind-off mark on the new one as if the model number was erased. It seems as if this Camco brand is just the Chromalox brand repackaged with the trade marks removed. I was a bit disappointed because Camco's web page explained that their burners had more coil turns than some other brands, and that is what made it "deluxe". When the new burner arrived it had the same number of turns (5) as the original. The picture is not accurate for this item because it clearly depicts 6 turns. Maybe the picture corresponds to the large size 8 inch burners. In any case, the quality is equal to the original and it is functional. I do not perceive anything about it that merits the "deluxe" adjective.

(More customer reviews)The "new" appliance I received was covered in scratches and scrapes though the burners looked untouched. The double burner was slow to heat up but I let it take its time. After half an hour, it still wasn't hot enough to brown my ground beef in the slightest, though the metal around the burners was extraordinarily hot. Not only was it scratched and ugly but it was completely useless.
To top it all off, the seller (CSB Commodities, ANTOnline) has absolutely absurd return policies so I'm stuck with this piece of crap.

Countertop space is minimal so the top overlaying our stove is used as a workspace which makes using the burners almost impossible. Well, problem is solved with my Waring burner. It takes up very little counter space, element heats up quickly to the exact temperature I've set it for & distributes an even heat to the bottom of all my pans & skillets. The burner is NOT 900 watts like it is advertised BUT 1300 watts which I think contributes to the burner being more efficient. The unit takes awhile to cool down but with the built-in hand holds on each side, I just pick it up (not hot to handle at all) & set it outside to cool. If I were using it my home, I would move it to another part of the kitchen or utility rm to cool. The burner is all that it claims to be ... and more!
