Lodge Original Finish Grill Press Review

Nice addition to your kitchen if you are cooking bacon, which tend to curl up. The bottom is smooth, with no places for food to catch and hide.
Cavet, the first one I had, the spring on the handle broke. (the wire spring is welded to the wire handle, it must have been overheated as the wire spring broke loose from the handle. Not incapacitating it, as the spring just rolls in you hand, but annoying.) I wrote Lodge Mfg, and they sent a replacement which has worked fine ever since. Hence 4 stars instead of 5.
Requires some assembly, a screwdriver and a small wrench. Easy for any handyperson to do.

This original finish rectangular grill press is designed to improve your stovetop and outdoor grill favorites. Great for eliminating curl from bacon or ham and improve the presentation of many other foods. The grill press effectively holds heat in grilled sandwiches and "presses" out unwanted fats in burgers and other meats. The heavy-duty cast iron base has a unique hammered finish and features a safe "cool-grip" spiral handle. Original finish. To season, follow these easy directions - Wash with hot, soapy water and a stiff brush. Rinse and dry thoroughly. Spead a thin coat of solid shortening or vegetable oil over the entire pan including handles and exterior surfaces. Line the lower oven rack with aluminum foil to catch any drippings and preheat oven to 350 degrees. Place cookware upside down on middle rack of oven and bake for 1 hour. Turn off the oven, leaving the cookware in the oven until cool. Your cookware will look slightly brown, instead of the familiar black but it is ready for cooking. It will blacken with cooking.

Mario Batali Panini Grill and Press, Chianti Review

In my opinion, this is a very good piece for any kitchen. I was looking for a heavy grill pan and this is the one. This is my second piece of Mario Batali cookware and both are far above average for quality and durability. I bought a round scrub brush to clean any cooked on food. Honestly, you just soak the pan in PLAIN hot water and any food particles scrub right off. I did oil mine after use the first couple of times and it's already starting to be easier to use. It's a keeper!

Le Creuset Enameled Cast-Iron 9-Inch Panini Press Review

Le Creuset Enameled Cast-Iron 9-Inch Panini Press

While shopping a retail cooking store, I fell in love with the Krups FDE312 panini press. A bit of Amazon research, however, turned up a disturbing pattern of sudden failures in this product. Research into other presses from Cuisinart, DeLonghi, Breville, Villaware, and others failed to produce a clear front runner. It seemed that each product had one or more issues - non-removable grill plates, difficult cleaning, lack of grill ribs, flimsy handles, tendency to dry food, non-adjustable temperature, etc. Enter the Le Creuset 10 ¼" grill pan and panini press. You can submerge them to clean. They're coated with enamel, not Teflon, which means with proper care they will last two lifetimes (although they're only guaranteed for the lifetime of the original owner). There's no electrical element to burn out, no cord to store, no moving parts to break. Use is simple. Heat the grill on one burner (we have gas, but they're supposed to work with other technologies) and the press on the other. Wait until a spatter of water vaporizes almost instantly. Brush grill pan with some oil. Place sandwiches on grill pan. Pick up the press, brush on some oil, place on sandwiches and press for a few moments. Sizzle, sizzle. Wait until the cheese melts. Serve. The panini were just like what I'd eaten in Italy. I haven't owned an electric press, but I can't imagine they'd be better. Cleanup of the enamel surface requires a bit of care but, unlike every Teflon-coated product I've ever owned, that surface will probably still be there 20 years from now. And since the grill pan actually has sides (unlike every electric panini press I looked at), there was no side-spattering and thus no cleanup to do around the cooking area. The only disadvantage - the grill/press combination cost me $150, about twice the cost of the average electric panini grill. But since many of the grill reviews I read spoke of this being their second (or third) electric grill, I suspect I'll make my money back over the next 20 years.

Easily impart authentic grill marks on food--from cafe-style hot sandwiches to paninis and melts--with help from this 9-inch weighted press. The square-shaped press helps trap heat while creating tasty grill marks on the top side of sandwiches. It nicely complements any Le Creuset square-shaped grill, but can also be used with other brands of skillets and pans. Like other pieces in Le Creuset's line of enameled cast iron, the panini press features a long-lasting enamel exterior that resists chipping and cracking, while its underside provides a satin black enamel--no need to season the cookware in the oven before use. As cast iron is unexcelled for even heat distribution and superior heat retention, the panini press helps cook food uniformly and gently without hot spots and can be used for cooking on the stovetop or finishing in the oven. Oven-safe up to 350 degrees F, the press comes fitted with a heat-resistant phenolic knob and should be hand washed for best results.

This is something that had been on my wish list for a while. I had not used one before but I liked the concept. Finally got one for my birthday a couple of years ago, and this has grown into one of my favorite tools. For bacon, nothing is better. I cook up 5 pounds at a time and freeze in 4-slice packs, and this little beauty makes the cooking process easy. Nice flat pieces that are great for that after-work BLT. Works great for panini and is definitely cheaper and easier to use than a specialized machine that does the same job for 5 times the price.
This is a real low-tech old school way of cooking that proves over and over again why its still so popular.

All-Clad Panini Pan with Press Review

All-Clad Panini Pan with Press

I have nothing but praise for this pan. I have been using it 4-5 times per week since I purchased it.
The pan heats quickly and evenly and gives that perfect grilled crust to everything I have tried. It did take some practice to get the temperature and timing down - I heat the press on another burner at 9/10 and the pan at about a 4/10. That gives me the perfect browning to both sides while also allowing enough time for the sandwich to get hot throughout. All Clad gives some advice on timing and procedure, but I think my system works better. Be aware, the handle of the pan stays cool but the press handle can get hot.
The listing does not say, but the press is cast iron and quite heavy. Cleanup of the press and pan is easy. The non-stick of the pan works well and the cast iron cleans up easily (I always butter or oil what I am grilling, so ymmv).
I now get perfect sandwiches every time, and never have to worry about all the things that can go wrong with an electric panini press. I am sure this pan will give me many years of great service.

Crafted of hard anodized aluminum, this two-piece Panini press includes a thick, nonstick pan that provides fast, even heat distribution. The heavy-duty press features a generous loop handle for adding pressure on top, leaving food with tasty, blackened grill marks. Working much like an outdoor grill only faster, it not only gives sandwiches a delicious crunch and an even browning, but the cookware also nicely grills meats, veggies, and fish. Its polished stainless-steel handle is secured to the pan by stainless-steel rivets for strength, rounded on the bottom for comfort, and holed in the end for hanging on a hook or peg when not in use. Both the lid's handle and the pan's long handle stay cool on the stovetop and won't be harmed by an oven's heat. The cookware should be washed by hand, which takes little effort due to its nonstick grill. The Panini pan measures 8-3/8 by 10-3/8 inches with the press measuring 8 by 10 inches. Both pieces covered by a limited lifetime warranty.

I am a vegetarian and I use this grill press all the time. It's great for grilled sandwiches! It will help you make great stuffed french toast. Your hashbrowns won't be a sloppy, crumbly mess anymore. This heavy little bugger is perfect for the aforementioned applications and about 40,000 more but the thing I use it for on almost a daily basis is preparing tofu. That magical bean curd benefits tremendously from the steady pressure of a hot lodge grill press!

While most chefs use a spatula to squeeze out fat from burgers and other meats, the process is a bit unwieldy and not always effective. Enter this grill press from Lodge, which features a heavy-duty cast-iron base that efficiently flattens your meats while on the grill or burner. The press offers a perfect way to drain fat from beef, eliminate curl from bacon and ham strips, and hold heat within grilled-cheese and panini sandwiches. As with all Lodge Logic items, the press is preseasoned through a proprietary "electrostatic" vegetable oil spray system. The preseasoning process readies the press for cooking right out of the box, making it far more convenient than old-style cast-iron items that required seasoning before use. The cast-iron base is not only heavy, but also attractive thanks to its unique hammered finish. In addition, chefs will find it easy to wield due to the "cool grip" spiral handle. The press measures 6-3/4 by 4-1/2 inches, so it'll work on most outdoor grills and in many indoor skillets. Lodge recommends hand washing the press with a stiff brush and hot water for best results. It also carries a lifetime warranty.
