Note that this is calibrated only for single walled flue pipes. If you have double walled piping you'll need either a probe or stovetop style thermometer for an accurate reading.

Copperfield 78160 Ecofan For Wood Stoves, Black Body, Gold Blades Review

Copperfield 78160 Ecofan For Wood Stoves, Black Body, Gold Blades

The blades move faster the higher the stove temp. A wood burning stove is best for this fan as the heavily insulated pellet stoves don't have enough surface heat to get the fan spinning decently. I have an Englander wood stove and run it at around 400-550 degrees and this fan pushes enough air that it will flutter a dangling piece of paper from 10ft away. It is also silent and I do mean silent (very nice) whereas those bolt-on accessory fans made for wood stoves that plug into the wall outlet sound like a hairdryer on terminal overload.
The fan generates electricity and runs from the temp differential between the stove surface and the heat sinks at the top (some kind of piezzo electric thing or some such). If you fire up the stove too hot (over 600 degrees) there's a metal flat spring on the bottom of the fan base that tips up the front a fraction of an inch to keep the fan from getting too hot and damaging it. As the stove cools back down below 600deg the spring straightens back out and the fan sits flat on the stove surface again.
I cannot recommend this product enough. It's wonderful.

Ecofan™ Heat-powered Wood Stove Fan Review

It looks great, no wires & it made a difference of about two degrees plus in the room which is great in the winter. The fan blades are a little light so don't drop it but they can be easly reshaped. I'm glad I got the larger of the two models. It's a great visual indicator, if the blades are turning slow, that you need additional logs. On the other hand if you can feel the breeze, shut the damper. I'm glad I purchased the Ecofan.

This unit works very well. Throws a lot of heat (not too noisy... but it does make noise).
IMPORTANT.... if the unit does not have power it will burn up!!! You can not urn the woodstove in a power failure. I added a UPS device to mine.

Caframo Ecofan Original, Black Review

It works. Very efficient use of the heat coming off of the wood-burning stove. You might find where some people state that it doesn't work, that it hardly spins or that it can't even move a piece of paper that you might place in front of it when checking airflow. To those reviews, I state that they did not perform proper placement as placement is the key. My wood-burning stove is an insert to my fireplace and I have my fan located on one of the sides, a few inches from the front and angled a few degrees to the center. The fan takes advantage of temperature differentials, meaning that it needs cooler air as well as hot. Thus, place the fan on the side and not dead center. My particular fan starts spinning (albeit slowly) when the stove's at a surface temp of about 100 degrees F. Spins faster as the stove temp increases. It's very quiet and is designed to move air in a wide dispersion (vs. a more narrow field, like you might get with a high-speed, 120V fan). I like it.

OK, so this is only a thermometer so I won't write a long review, but I have to say that this little device helps me operate my wood stove better. It helps me know when I have the stove "overfired" or when I need to add more wood and turn up the oxygen. We've named the zones "Papa Bear" (too hot), Mama Bear (too cold) and Baby Bear (just right). Yeah . . . I know, but I have young kids.
