All-Clad Stainless-Steel Fondue Pot with Ceramic Insert Review

Just bourght and used this set and absolutely LOVE it. We are regular fondue folks and this is, by far, the best set. Other sets we used were typically enamel and ended up with burnt spots in the middle and uneven heating.
Decided to go with All-Clad because I have a few of their other pans which work beautifully.
The set is all dishwasher/microwave safe which is a huge plus. The quality is superb -- even the forks. The pots are wider and much sturdier on the stand than other sets. But, the best part is the quick heat up time and even temperature. No more burnt cheese spots.
The ceramic insert is perfect for cheese or chocolate and makes the set extremely versatile.
I wish I had bought two when I had the chance. The only downside is the set costs more than most but the quality is well worth it.
The only other comment is that I wish makers would offer more forks with the sets and make it easier to identify forks. In other words, each guest should have 3 or 4 forks and all of the same color.

Emile Henry Flame Top Fondue Set, Black Review

These are the best fondue pots ever. I received the yellow one as a wedding present a few years ago. Since then I've purchased the red one for my sister and now the black one for my sister-in-law (got to be able to tell them apart when we all get together). We've done cheese, chocolate, oil, & broth, used them on gas burners and electric and not only do they heat evenly, but they clean up easily too (even if someone forgets to clean-up until the next day).

Emile Henry Flame-Top ceramic cookware is light and versatile, an innovative breakthrough in ceramics technology. Our new line of Burgundy Clay Flame-Top ceramics products work directly on a gas flame or an electric or halogen hob without a diffuser, without any fear of cracking or breaking. Much lighter, (30% lighter), than many types of comparable metal cookware products, Flame-Top is microwave and dishwasher-safe, cleans up very easily, is extremely strong and durable, goes under the broiler, and can go directly from a freezer or a refrigerator to a hot oven to the table, where it will retain the cooking heat for a very long time.Unlike most metal cookware products, Flame-Top cookware can sit on a very hot open flame for an extended period of time without any ingredients in the cook pot, and they will not crack, discolor or break. Perfect for braising, browning and slow cooking due to the incredibly gentle heat distribution properties of Burgundy Clay, Flame-Top products cook evenly and thoroughly when used on top of the stove, in the oven or even in the microwave. Enhancing this gentle cooking action are raised dots on the underneath side of each lid that evenly distribute evaporated juices directly back into the cooking food. This self-basting technique produces a more thoroughly cooked, tender and moist dish than with traditional lids, which force liquids to run down the sides of the pot, and which contribute to even cooking. Emile Henry Flame-Top ceramic cookware is light and versatile, and better brings out the flavors of all cooked foods.

Emile Henry Flame Top Fondue Set Red Review

This is a nice fondue set manufactured in France. The caquelon (pot) is earthenware which is considered to be the more proper or traditional material for use in making cheese fondue. It is what you will typically find used in Switzerland for cheese fondue.
The enameled, cast iron caquelons made by several other manufacturers are better suited when used with oil or broth to cook meats or seafood. This is due, in part, to the fact that cast iron, once heated, retains heat extremely well. Accordingly, it does not respond rapidly to a drop in temperature (i.e. lowering the heat). That is why a cast iron frying pan is great for searing steaks - it does not lose as much heat as would a stainless steel pan when a cold steak is dropped in it. While a pot or pan with high thermal retention qualities can provide an advantage in certain types of cooking, it can prove a disadvantage when making cheese fondue. If the heat gets a little too high when melting the cheese, reducing the heat or removing the pot from the heat source will not have an effect for a couple of minutes because the cast iron will retain the heat. In the time it takes the pot to cool a bit, the cheese may already have separated from the excessive heat. Even while eating fondue, you will find yourself having to lower the heat periodically to avoid boiling the cheese or scorching the cheese on the bottom of the pot, particularly when most of the cheese in the pot has been eaten and you are getting near the bottom. Although earthenware also has relatively high thermal retention qualities and will retain a certain amount of heat, lowering the flame will have a more immediate effect with earthenware than it would with cast iron.
Aside from the above considerations, a particular benefit to the Emile Henry earthenware caquelon is that it is capable of being used directly on a gas, electric or halogen range top to melt the cheese. Some earthenware pots cannot be used directly on a range top and will crack if used in such a fashion. Accordingly, if made in some other manufacturer's earthenware pots, the cheese must first be melted in a separate pot (or double boiler) and then transferred to the caquelon. The Emile Henry flame top pot eliminates that step.
As to the other components, the rechaud (stand) is adequate and sufficiently sturdy, but I would prefer that it have a slightly wider base. Still, this one is fine and works well. The fondue forks are very nice. Although made of stainless steel, at first glance they look almost like wrought iron.
One note of caution: Do not follow the fondue recipe included with this set with respect to the wine - it calls for far too much wine. Reduce to no more than two cups wine and add warmed wine by the tablespoon thereafter if more is needed as you melt the cheese.

Le Creuset Enameled Cast-Iron 1-3/4-Quart Fondue Pots Review

Le Creuset Enameled Cast-Iron 1-3/4-Quart Fondue Pots

The Le Creuset pot is great. It can cook cheese, broth and oil fondues equally well. Cheese fondues won't burn since the iron heats more evenly than thin stainless sets. It won't break if dropped like the ceramic bowls. You can start on the stove, unlike the ceramic pots, so you only have one to clean. The set is very heavy which keeps it from accidentally tippping (a good thing with a pot of boiling oil). The enamel interior cleans easily even with burned -on food. Looks smarter than the cheap sets too. If you're going to make fondue more than once, get a good product.

Trudeau 0823004 Electric 11-Piece 3-in-1 Fondue Set Review

Trudeau 0823004 Electric 11-Piece 3-in-1 Fondue Set

The Trudeau electric fondue pot is a triumph of form following function. Being electric it is very convenient to use and arguably safer than "sterno" units. It is versatile and can be used with cheese, meat or dessert fondues. Compared to others presently on the market, it has the distinct advantage of being the only one truly designed for all three types of fondue.
I tested the Rival and the Cuisinart. Both use direct heat technology, which is fine for oil or broth based fondue which require high heat. However, when you cook cheese or dessert you have use a low heat setting. Both units cycle between "on" and "off" at various intervals trying to keep a steady temperature. This creates either rapid boiling or fast cooling. Making a cheese or chocolate fondue with the Rival and Cuisinart is doable, but be prepared to be stirring the pot a lot to prevent scorching the food. The Westinghouse seems to be the same design as the other two, but I have not tried it.
As for the Trudeau it has several nice features. First, the pot is separate from the heating base. This means you can heat the pot in the kitchen and bring it to the table when ready. The heating surface is teflon coated for easy clean up. The unit is also more "upright" than the other electrics which takes up less space on your table, while looking darn good too. IMHO.
However, what gives the Trudeau its distinct advantage is the unique double boiler system where, when making cheese or dessert fondue, you fill the chrome pot with 20 ounces of water and insert a stoneware crock into the pot. The arrangement allows for even heating at lower temperatures which is essential for cheese and chocolate fondues.
For oil or broth fondues, the chrome pot sit atop the direct heat of the heating base as you would expect. Six better than average fondue forks are included along with a fork holder for the chrome pot to keep the forks from sliding around. Another nice feature is the patented electric plug which eliminates the guesswork of knowing which way to insert the plug into the base.
If you want one fondue pot to serve all your needs, this is the one to buy.

Turn any potluck night with friends into an extra-special occasion with the help of this electric fondue pot. The 56-ounce unit can be used for hot broth or oil-based fondue when dipping pieces of meat and seafood, or slip its stoneware double-boiler insert into place for serving cheese or chocolate fondue. The mirror-finish 18/10-stainless-steel pot sits securely on top of the electric warming base, which features a nonstick warming plate and offers a simple control dial on the front for easily adjusting the heat from low to high. The stainless-steel pot can also be used directly on the stovetop, making it possible to cook a favorite fondue recipe in the kitchen before transporting it to the warming base, situated neatly on the buffet or dining-room table--no need to dirty a second pot. Six stainless-steel forks come included, each with a brightly colored dot on the end for quickly distinguishing one from the other. For added convenience, a stainless-steel fork guide around the rim of the pot helps keep each fork in position. Other highlights include two loop side handles on the stainless-steel pot, an "on" indicator light on the warming base, and a quick-release magnetic power cord for safety. The 500-watt, UL-approved electric fondue pot measures approximately 9-2/7 by 9 by 9-2/7 inches and carries a one-year limited warranty.

Double True Induction Cooktop - 2 Induction Electric Burner (S2F2) Review

Double True Induction Cooktop - 2 Induction Electric Burner (S2F2)

We have a small kitchen and every meal we cook my wife and i are running into each other. We wanted to be able to put a burner on our island too so we could stay out of each others way for safety sake. We looked at a regular burner vs induction and the true-induction people were knowledgeable and had first hand experience with both and explained it to me. Induction was definitely the way to go - i wish we had the money to replace our regular range with induction because of how fast it is. As i understand it induction uses spinning magnets to excite the molecules in the metal pans and the pan heats up instead of the cooktop. It is much faster. we can boil water in 90 seconds which is great because we never time the rice or pasta right with the rest of the stuff. Also we don't even like to use the small burners on the range now because they take sooo long to heat the pans, we use the bigger range burners and the induction (and on work mornings i want eggs fast, i only use induction - it takes about 45 seconds to get the pan heated to cooking temperature). What is cool about this model is it has a setting where you can pick the exact temperature you want your pan. we have had recipes we wanted to try that say "heat the pan to 325" - we never had a way before to really make that happen, it was always a guess.
