The brown rice takes a little longer to cook because you have to double the amount of water. For example, if you use one cup of white rice, you use one cup of water. With the brown rice, you use two cups of water for one cup of brown rice. Make sure to rinse the rice several times before placing it in the cooker. Rinse until the water is relatively clear. This step will keep the rice from being sticky after it cooks. Clean up was a breeze.

I used it on my stove's 16,000 BTU burner, but that has not been a problem for my other cookware. The fried chicken it produced was good, but I'm sure this pot can't stand up to heavy use. Buy it only for occasional use. If you plan to fry alot, buy a basket for your dutch oven or buy a commercial aluminum fry bottom/basket.

This hot plate has no temperature control or on/off switch. Has no heat shield around the wiring... so 2nd time I used it, the wiring melted and shorted out with a nice spark and burn. There is no way this product is legal in the US.

(More customer reviews)Wow, I'm a big fan of fried foods, homemade french fries especially fried in Canola Oil. I've used industrial restaurant sized fryers and worked from a stove top. This little puppy is probably one of the best little friers I've ever seen.
Most of the negative view of this fryer can be solved by simply reading the instruction booklet. Number one complaint, the cord falls off. Well yes it does, and that is by design. The cord is held into it's socket on the fryer side with a magnet. This is so you can unplug the unit without pulling the fryer over and burning yourself with hot oil. It's a common mistake, thinking the cord is broken. If you plug this in, attach the magnet end and don't move the frier, it will not come unplugged.
Number two complaint, the basket is flimsy and falls over itself. It does not do that if you install the handle correctly. You have to squeeze the two sides and slip the pins into two holes and under a tab - the handle will never ever move in this position.
Here's what I love about this appliance, it uses a small amount of oil - around a quart / liter. We don't have fried foods very often, and I don't cook a whole chicken at once. It's just perfect for those side dishes - appetizer mozzarella sticks, egg rolls, jalapeno poppers, etc. You can do chicken fingers, fish sticks, donuts in here. Food cooks evenly and quickly. Heat up time is around 3 or 4 minutes. Cooking time varies a lot, but can be around 3 or 4 minutes.
The cover is ingeneous - it closes down tight around the top and the basket so no splashing of oil happens. Cook on the counter top with no fear of splashing oil everywhere. The carbon filter shouldn't be cleaned every use, and it prevents splashes from coming out of the lid. The clear window, can see that oil will cloud that up over time, but it's handy to see inside.
Frankly, I love this unit. It's well built, solid construction, feels good in use. Cuisinart built a good small fryer in this unit.

I have used mine for over a year for roasts, whole chickens, chili, soups, etc. and all are done to perfection on "low". Sounds to me like the other reviewer had a defective one. This slow cooker really IS versatile! I have the stainless steel model, not the black aluminum one. You can slow cook all day or speed things up by using medium or high temperature settings. I will replace mine immediately if it wears out...don't know what I would do without it! I use it almost every day.

We wanted to be able to put a burner on our island too so we could stay out of each others way for safety sake. We looked at a regular burner vs induction and the true-induction people were knowledgeable and had first hand experience with both and explained it to me. Induction was definitely the way to go - i wish we had the money to replace our regular range with induction because of how fast it is. As i understand it induction uses spinning magnets to excite the molecules in the metal pans and the pan heats up instead of the cooktop. It is much faster. we can boil water in 90 seconds which is great because we never time the rice or pasta right with the rest of the stuff. Also we don't even like to use the small burners on the range now because they take sooo long to heat the pans, we use the bigger range burners and the induction (and on work mornings i want eggs fast, i only use induction - it takes about 45 seconds to get the pan heated to cooking temperature). What is cool about this model is it has a setting where you can pick the exact temperature you want your pan. we have had recipes we wanted to try that say "heat the pan to 325" - we never had a way before to really make that happen, it was always a guess.

This misleading photograph advertising the "Indigo" tea kettle shows the kettle partially filled with a blue liquid that matches the tiny circle of blue on the lid. The blue on the lid is the ONLY thing indigo on this Indigo Tea Kettle. FYI: this is a CLEAR glass tea kettle with a blue knob on the lid. Works fine, though.

I ordered this one because it had a carrier tote; I take my slow cooker with me to covered-dish dinners and church socials. This is a nice extra feature, but I would have bought a West Bend anyway; I like the adjustable heat-not just high, medium and low. I use my slow cookers to thaw and reheat frozen foods,cook turkey breasts, and make soups.You can put ingredients in the cooker in the morning and come home to a hot dinner. This is a good product, easy to clean and can be used on the stove top or even in the freezer. I highly recommend it.

I bought it for its solid, flat plate, which is much easier to clean and much more stable than exposed-coil heating elements, which tend to rattle around in their drip pan. I bought this not for cooking purposes, but for arts and crafts -- I use it in my studio for steam-setting dyed wool in a canning pot, and also for heating wax and encaustic paints. The "warm" setting and exceptional control over temperature is especially helpful for heating wax and encaustic, which have very low melting- and flash points. While an electric griddle might be a better option for precise temperature control, this hotplate is generally pretty well-made for its price and has a good, multipurpose heating element.

Proctor-Silex 34101 Fifth Burner Review

(More customer reviews)We got this to replace a burner bought off the shelf. It died within the first week. I have been much happier with the results for this burner as a replacement for our dead stove. In fact, it heats up faster that our stove used to. Produces good heat quickly and has worked well in almost all situations.
The only issue I have is with what seems to be an overtemp safety because it will cycle itself on and off. A pot will get hot quickly but it also seems to senses that the pot is still there and hot, and decides to take a rest or turner off the burner for 15-30 sec while things in your pot stop boiling. It seems to come back quickly to reheat again, but cooking with an even hear is lost as the burner cycles on/off.
