Emile Henry Flame Top Wok Review

Emile Henry Flame Top Wok
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I love Emile Henry. They are completely eco friendly. The cookware itself literally comes from the earth! The Burgundian clay mixture comes from decomposed rock that is millions of years old. Even the glazes and finishes are derived from all natural sources and are non toxic. The Emile Henry factory is also eco friendly and adheres to strict environmental practices.
If I know I can throw some veggies into the wok and have a meal in about five or ten minutes with less than five minutes cleaning time, I'm in! Sometimes by dinner time you're tired and not up to the challenge of making a healthy meal. But you still want something hot and hearty. With this wok, there is no excuse not to eat healthy. With the wok, you only lightly cook the veggies, so there are more healthy enzymes in tact and the nutrient level is higher.
I put a tiny bit of coconut oil in the pan, along with a couple of garlic clove halves (to be taken out later, it's there just to flavor the oil). Then I toss in whatever veggies I have on hand. Always broccoli, maybe some bok choy or napa cabbage, some carrots. A little chili oil or grated ginger if it's a cold day, some green herbs like cilantro,Thai basil, or lime leaf. There are infinite possibilites and flavors to come up with. In five minutes or less you have a great meal, just like that. I like it served up with a big salad and if you need something heartier, some quinoa.
The wok is also oven safe and for Thanksgiving, I used it to make my stuffing. It was so easy! First I sautéed some minced onion, then added some diced mushrooms, then diced celery. I let the flavors mingle, then added whole grain bread cubes (already in the bag from the co-op). Then I poured some vegetable broth over it, added some herbs, mixed it up, put the lid on and baked for about an hour. It was crazy good and there was just barely any left to enjoy the next day. Clean up took just a couple of minutes even though some of the stuffing was pretty baked on. I will definitely be repeating this for our Christmas dinner.
The wok looks wonderful on the table and the ceramic acts as a warmer, keeping the food from getting cold. You can't go wrong with Emile Henry. I know it's a little spendy, but this is something you buy one time. And then you pass it down through generations, so I think it's well worth it. It would make a killer holiday gift for the foodie or cook on your list

A versatile addition to any cookware collection, this innovative wok's curved interior promotes proper stir-frying, while its wide top and narrow bottom allow for frying with less oil than with a straight-sided pan. Simply heat the oil; add any favorite combination of fresh vegetables, tofu, or meat; then keep things moving with a long-handled wooden spatula. Measuring approximately 16 by 13-1/2 by 6 inches, the 5-quart-capacity wok retains heat and distributes it gently and evenly, making the cooking vessel a nice choice not only for stir-frying, but also for braising, simmering, sauteing, and steam cooking. It can also be heated to extremely high temperatures for searing. The cookware brings out the natural flavors of the food and maintains natural textures and colors for delicious results. An oven-safe tempered-glass lid and a handy tempura rack come included.
As with other pieces in the Emile Henry's Flame-Top ceramic cookware line, the wok is made of Burgundy Clay, which can be used on any stove top (gas, electric, or halogen), without any fear of cracking or breaking. Be sure to use Emile Henry's special induction disk when using the wok on induction stove tops. For exceptional convenience, the base can go directly from the refrigerator or freezer to a hot oven, under the broiler, in the microwave--or even on a barbecue grill. Its beautiful design also makes it a viable choice for use as a serving piece at the table. Other highlights include two integrated side handles, a footed base for heat diffusion, and a lightweight design (up to 30-percent lighter than all cast iron). Manufactured in France, the wok cleans easily by hand or in the dishwasher, and it carries a 10-year limited warranty.

Calphalon Unison Nonstick 12-Inch Round Griddle Pan Review

Calphalon Unison Nonstick 12-Inch Round Griddle Pan
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased this Calphalon Unison Nonstick 12 Inch Round Griddle Pan along with the Calphalon Unison Nonstick 12 Inch Round Grill Pan and cannot be happier. We use this pan for everything: eggs, bacon, French toast, pancakes, vegetables, dumplings (pot stickers), I even made a batch of one-pan brownies (preparing the recipe in the pan on the stove, then sticking the pan in the oven to bake) and they came out great!
The main points for this pan are:
* Nonstick (I mean REALLY nonstick)
* Oven-safe
* Easy to clean
* Handle stays cool while cooking (except when used in the oven)
* Large size with steep sides allows for cooking almost anything but crepes
At around $50 (I paid $100 for the set of two pans) this pan is an incredible bargain. It outperforms every nonstick pan I've used in the past, and I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys stove-top cooking. Even if the only time you use a frying pan is for bacon and eggs in the morning, you will fall in love with Calphalon's Unison nonstick coating.
Note: As with any nonstick cookware, avoid using metal cooking utensils. I bought a heat-resistant silicone-coated spatula and set of tongs and they work perfect.

Paula Deen Non-Stick Stainless Steel Skillets Review

Paula Deen Non-Stick Stainless Steel Skillets

I recently purchased this skillet and was surprised to find that each time it gets hot (just past medium) the bottom of the pan warps. It rocks badly on my glass top stove. Then when it cools, it goes back to flat. More annoying than anything as things seem to cook just fine.

All-Clad Stainless 4-Quart Casserole Pan Review

All-Clad Stainless 4-Quart Casserole Pan
Average Reviews:

This pot is the perfect size for a standard soup recipe. I have the Dutch oven and the 6-qt stock pot as well, but I still wanted this pot. I have not been disappointed. I like the taller shape; it jut feels more like a soup pot to me (I understand this is completely subjective.)
All-Clad Stainless is my favorite line of cookware. The clad technology means even heat conduction and it works on induction cookware. An extra bonus for me is the easy clean up -- throw it in the dishwasher. Whne necesary, polish with a Bar Keeper's Friend and it will look like new forever.
If you are choosing between this and a Dutch oven, go with the Dutch oven because the shape is more versatile. This pot is not a must-have, but a great have if you make a lot of soup and are looking for an addition to your All-Clad set.

Emeril Pro-Clad Stainless Steel 12-Inch Fry Pan Review

Emeril Pro-Clad Stainless Steel 12-Inch Fry Pan
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I received this pan for free via a promotion here at amazon. If you bought $300 or over in emerilware, you received this and a 10" cast iron grill pan for free. The grill pan imediately went into my camp/survival kit since I can't use cast iron on my glass top stove, and since cast iron works amazing with a campfire. The 12" tri-ply pan this review is about, is the best pan I've ever owned. Let me share why!
I own the full 10 piece emerilware pro-clad set. This is a larger pan that the set does not include. The pan itself is flawless in construction. The handle is shaped right to divert heat so you do not need a hotpad holder while cooking on the stove. The full tri-ply construction seamlessly melds an aluminum core between two layers of stainless steel for optimal heat spread. it is priced very reasonable, considering this pan is made by all-clad, who sells an idenically constructed pan for far more money. You're essentially getting all-clad quality for a bargain price.
There's a lot of caveats to owning a stainless steel pan over a non-stick. There are also a lot of advantages. cooking on stainless steel is different than non-stick. You won't make eggs in stainless steel. anyone who tries A) doesn't own a nonstick pan, or B) is a stainless steel fan who can't admit the limitations of the pan. Stainless steel is designed to stick! that's why we make meats and other savory dishes in stainless steel. after its cooked, we have all those wonderful bits on the bottom! we deglaze with wine or broth, and can reduce the liquid and make a sauce or gravy out of it. You can't do that with nonstick. For making Eggs, flatbreads, corn and four tortillas, pancakes, and especially creppes, I still will use my old trusty 10" nonstick skillet. While I may be able to cook some of those items in stainless steel, I'd have to use a large amount of grease to prevent sticking. I can just pam spray my nonstick and go for less calories and less headaches.
Some people also complain stainless steel is harder to clean. high temperature paints a rainbow over your pan, and things that stick can be hard to unstick without using abrasives that will scratch the pans. It's easy if you know two great products.
1) distilled white vinegar. This will take off all rainbow effects and waterspots, and disifects as well! I always keep a spraybottle of the stuff in the kitchen for sanitizing surfaces and pans.
2) for restoring the shine to your stainless steel, and getting hard to get out stains, try barkeeper's friend: cookware version. This version can be bought from the barkeeper's friend website (just do a google, I don't think I'm permitted to link outside amazon in reviews even if amazon doesn't carry the product). The cookware version is formulated to not scratch your pans and makes them look new. leading stainless steel makers like allclad and calpheon all reccomend this product to clean. Infact, I just received a 4pack of the 12oz bottles in the mail today.
Overall, I think you can't go wrong buying any emerilware pro-clad pan. Its quality stainless steel at a great price.

This is the pan that you can cook anything in. Great for cooking stir fry or pan fry dumplings. The non-stick coating is excellent. Easy to wash and clean. Well-made hinges. Good quality pot. Love that it comes with lid. The pot is not as heavy as I thought, which makes it easier to wash in the sink.
The only con I have is that the smaller handle still gets a little hot and the rubber grip on that handle seems like it might come off one day if not careful. Other than that, we use this pot very frequently (several times a week) and enjoy it very much. If using this pot, I highly recommend cooking with bamboo or wood utensils so you won't scratch up the non-stick coating. I would recommend this pot to others and would buy again.

T-Fal Signature Hard Anodized 10-Inch Skillet with Glass Lid Review

I received this as a Christmas gift, purchased off of my wishlist. I'd never seen the pan in Real Life, but picked it out for the price, the brand, and the size. I can now say........I love this pan! I confess that I make a lot of skillet meals (you know, those boxed "helper" kind) and this pan is perfect. The sides are nice and tall, which solves the problem of boil over or, in my case, slop over from stirring. It's a nice weight for me; heavy enough to feel good and solid, but not so heavy that I can't lift it off the burner when filled. It's super easy to clean, too. All in all, this is an exceptional product, especially for the price.

Lodge Logic L14SK3 Pre-Seasoned 15 Inch Cast-Iron Skillet Review

Lodge Logic L14SK3 Pre-Seasoned 15 Inch Cast-Iron Skillet

I've decided to replace my teflon pans with cast iron and this is one of the first ones I bought. So far it has been excellent. The large size is fantastic, though it's definitely heavy. My arm muscles are getting a workout! I'm glad I got it pre-seasoned, since that was one less thing to hassle with. I have found that cooking with cast iron makes food taste better. Kind of surprsing. I'm not sure why this has been the case, but my husband and I have both noticed it. I have to say though, it is very different than cooking with a regular teflon pan. At first I kept burning everything. Cast iron gets very hot and maintains a steady hot temperature. I'm finding that I'm basically cooking everything in this pan on med-low heat, where I would have used medium heat. Overall, I'm happy with my purchase though and plan on getting a couple more cast iron pans

Lodge cast-iron cookware has long been admired for its superior heat retention and even heat distribution, but now the company adds another enticement with its Lodge Logic line. All Lodge Logic cookware, including this generously sized 15-1/4-inch skillet, comes preseasoned via a proprietary "electrostatic" vegetable oil spray system and is ready for cooking right out of the box--unlike traditional Lodge cookware, which needs seasoning in your home oven before use. During the timesaving preseasoning process, oil penetrates deeply into the cast-iron surface while a high-temperature gas oven seals it in, preserving the cookware for generations and creating an attractive heirloom finish.
The skillet measures 15-1/4 inches in diameter and 2-1/4 inches deep--an ideal size for large tasks such as cooking a stack of pancakes or making a family portion of scrambled eggs. The vessel is also suited for roasting vegetables, searing steaks, or making quesadillas, as its cast-iron material delivers a smooth, consistent temperature without wasting heat. The pan's esteemed heat retention particularly enhances slow-cooking recipes that call for tender meats and rich, seasoned flavors. Chefs will also appreciate the durable handle with a loop on the end for hanging, along with the opposite helper handle that aids in transport--a necessity when cooking with heavy cast iron. And finally, the skillet includes a couple of side indentations that facilitate smoother pouring. Lodge recommends hand washing the pan with a stiff brush and hot water for best results. The skillet also comes with a lifetime warranty.

pics to come soon....
This lid lifter is better than the standard ones from Lodge that everyone buys. It may not be as decorative as the Lodge lid lifter, but it holds the lid much more secure...and that's what you really want in this type of product.
It has a little foam piece around the part where you put your palm, which is nice.
All you do is put the middle hook in the dutch oven lid loop, pull up on the T-bar with your fingers and the hook pulls the lid up tight against the three prongs.
Very secure. I just used it on my 7 quart Lodge Dutch Oven lid over the weekend.

Oxo Good Grips Splatter Screen with Folding Handle Review

Oxo Good Grips Splatter Screen with Folding Handle

You have to be careful when you lift it off the pan that you keep it horizontal because if you raise it to a vertical position, it will double back and you will risk getting hot grease, or hot water/steam on you.
As far as the amount of splatter control, I don't find that it is a lot better than normal splatter screens. I have to lay a paper towel over the top while frying as there still is too much splatter.
I find that the fitting on top of pans is about somewhat better than a regular splatter screen, but not as good as I was expecting.
I bought a new dishwasher that the racks are adjustable, but it still will only fit in one place in my dishwasher or it will flop around.

if you are just outfitting your kitchen, start with this pan. Especially if you are cooking for 2 or 3. The 10" deep skillet is one of the least expensive, decent fry pans available. You can do a dutch apple pie with the lid on in the oven, you can cook eggs, pancakes, french toast on the lid. If you are cooking for 4, and want just one fry pan, get the 12". Otherwise this pan does it all. Roast, fry, oven and stove top. The pans are tough, mine is going on 20+ years.
Downside, takes a bit more oil or grease than a Teflon pan, but then if you own a parrot you already know you can't cook on Teflon. Makes you wonder how good it is for the rest of us.

Get two pieces of cookware in one package with this cast iron Combo Cooker from the Lodge Logic line. It features a 3-quart base that can act as a deep skillet or shallow Dutch oven and a shallow 10-1/4-inch skillet/griddle that also acts as a lid to the 3-quart base. Cast iron creates superior heat retention, heats evenly, and loves a campfire, unlike flimsier pans. The American-based company Lodge has been fine-tuning its construction of rugged, cast-iron cookware for more than a century. No other metal is as long-lasting and works as well for spreading and retaining heat evenly during cooking. Lodge's Logic line of cookware comes factory pre-seasoned with the company's vegetable oil formula, and is ready to use right out of the box.
While both come pre-seasoned to prevent food from sticking, they work best when sprayed or lightly coated with vegetable oil before use. After the meal is done, simply scrub the cast iron with a stiff brush and hot water, no soap, and dry immediately. Lodge covers the sturdy oven with a lifetime limited warranty against defects, and when cared for properly, this virtually indestructible pan should last for generations.
